| Today we're going to work on getting your package one step closer to its intended destination. In a previous lesson we discussed the phrase, "I would like to send this package to New York." Which was Saya mau kirim paket ini ke New York. Let’s break it down by syllable. Sa-ya ma-u ki-rim pa-ket i-ni ke New York. Again the location is interchangeable. |
| When sending a package though, you're going to have to explain what's inside the package. You may even be asked, "What's in the package?" which in Indonesian is Ada apa di dalam paketnya? Let’s break it down by syllable A-da a-pa di da-lam pa-ket-nya? Now let’s hear it once again. Ada apa di dalam paketnya? The first word ada means "to exist" or 'there is." Let’s break down this word and hear it one more time. A-da. ada. This is followed by apa, which in Indonesian is "what." Apa. a-pa. apa. So to recap here, we have ada apa. Literally this means "What's there?" Let's take a look at the next word di dalam which means "inside." di dalam. di dalam. Finally, we have paketnya which means "the package." Paketnya. paketnya. |
| So altogether we have Ada apa di dalam paketnya? Literally, this means "What's there inside the package?" |
| At this point let’s introduce more vocabulary to describe what your package may contain. Let’s say that you bought some really bulky things like a stone statue, a good choice or some paintings which also a good choice. Here’s some words to help you out. A stone statue is patung batu. pa-tung ba-tu. patung batu. Patung means “statue” while batu means “stone”. Thus a stone statue is patung batu. Paintings are also a popular items to buy. The word for “painting” is lukisan. lu-kis-an. lukisan. This word comes from the verb “lukis” which means “to paint stylistically”. Now you are pretty much set to send out your package of loot home. |
