| Becky: We’re going to listen to Lisa and Hana having a conversation on a vacation trip. |
| Fira: They're good friends, so they'll be using informal Indonesian. |

| Becky: So Lisa and Hana are on vacation in the Raja Ampat Islands. Fira, what can you tell us about these beautiful islands? |
| Fira: Well, the Raja Ampat Islands are located to the northwest of Papua Island. Most people who have visited the islands say it’s the best for diving. |
| Becky: It has the richest biodiversity of marine life in the world, and breathtaking underwater beauty. |
| Fira: As well as fish and coral species, you'll also find marine mammals and sea turtles. |
| Becky: It sounds like a real paradise. I heard that there are a lot of homestays with local people there. |
| Fira: That’s right. If you’d like to meet more Indonesian people, you can interact with the local people in a homestay, and witness the hospitality and natural way of life there. |
| Becky: Interesting. How do you get to this beautiful island? |
| Fira: The closest city connected to Raja Ampat is Sorong in West Papua. You can find flights to Sorong, and once you arrive at Sorong airport, go to the ferry harbor. From the harbor, you may use public ferries or charter a speedboat to the Raja Ampat Islands. |

| KEY VOCAB AND PHRASES |
| Becky: Let’s take a closer look at the usage of some of the words and phrases from this lesson. |
| Fira: Let’s start with lihat. |
| Becky: It's usually used when you’re pointing at something for someone to take a look at. |
| Fira: For example, lihat ke sana for "look over there," and apa yang kamu lihat?, "What do you see?" |
| Becky: So it means either "to look at" or "to see." What’s the next word? |
| Fira: It’s pemandangan. |
| Becky: This is a noun meaning "scenery," "view," or "landscape." |
| Fira: The word pemandangan has a connection with lihat. It comes from the root word pandang, meaning "to see" with the particle pe-an added. For example, when you see the beautiful white beach, you may say, pemandangan di sini sangat indah. |
| Becky: "The scenery here is really beautiful." Now, don’t forget that words that have the particle pe-an are almost always going to be nouns. |
| Fira: Yes, take note of that, listeners. Next up is the word bawa. |
| Becky: This is a verb meaning "to bring" or "to carry" in English. |
| Fira: When you are bringing something with you, you can say membawa. For example, when you bring a book, Saya membawa sebuah buku. |
| Becky: "I bring a book." What’s another example, please? |
| Fira: Let’s see...when you come home and bring some food, you could say, Saya pulang membawa makanan. |
| Becky: "I brought home some food." Okay, now onto the grammar. |
| GRAMMAR POINT |
| Becky: In this lesson, you’ll learn some expressions for vacation activities. We see that Lisa told Hana to prepare her diving equipment. |
| Fira: That’s right. To emphasize verbs, for example, just simply put subject + ingin + verb. It means the subject would like to do something. Such as, saya ingin bersepeda means "I would like to ride a bike." Another example is Saya ingin mendaki gunung, or "I would like to climb a mountain." |
| Becky: I see, so how do we use adverbs of time to express the past then? |
| Fira: Well, the verb used in Indonesian is one that can be in its root form, with the prefix ber-, or with the prefixes me-, men-, or meng-. For example, if you want to try the local cuisine, you can say, Saya ingin mencoba makanan khas daerah ini. |
| Becky: "I would like to try the local dishes.". |
| Fira: That's right Becky, Let’s look at another example. Ibu ingin berlayar dengan kapal pesiar. |
| Becky: "Mother wants to go on a cruise." So how would you ask for a location or a place then? |
| Fira: Well, there are plenty of ways, but you can use this simple pattern, di mana + tempat + noun (or place)? |
| Becky: Let’s hear it in a sentence please. |
| Fira: For example, let’s say you want to know where you can rent a motorboat. You can say Di mana tempat penyewaan perahu motor? |
| Becky: "Where's the place for renting a motorboat?" Let’s break this down, “where is” is … |
| Fira: … di mana |
| Becky: Next is the word “the place” |
| Fira: … tempat |
| Becky: And the noun “rental” is … |
| Fira: … penyewaan |
| Becky: And finally the word “a motorboat” is … |
