Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Indonesian Season 1, Lesson 13 - Who Is It? In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask who someone is in Indonesian.
Body
Eric: Here's the informal way to ask “Who is it?” in Indonesian.
Fira: [Normal] Siapa?
Eric: This expression has only one word meaning “who.”
Fira: [Normal] siapa [Slow] siapa
Eric: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning “Who is it?”
Fira: [Slow] Siapa? [Normal] Siapa?
Eric: Now here's the informal way to ask, “Who is that?”
Fira: [Normal] Itu siapa?
Eric: First is a word meaning “that.”
Fira: [Normal] itu [Slow] itu
Eric: Last is the word meaning “who.”
Fira: [Normal] siapa [Slow] siapa
Eric: Note again the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning “Who is that?”

Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Fira: If someone that you didn't expect is knocking at your door in Indonesia, the common question you can ask is Siapa ya? before opening the door. This literally means "Who is it?" in a polite way.
